They are three-dimensional and aesthetic representations of waterfalls that can be used in interior and exterior spaces. According to Feng Shui, a water fountain acts as a neutralising agent or a healing element that corrects or enhances the flow of energy in a given space that requires the presence of the element of water.

They can be of various sizes and generally have a pump that is connected and allows water to flow permanently. As a decorative element, the representations can be quite diverse, but those that are oriented towards Zen aesthetics generally depict water falling over rocks or pitchers.

How is an indoor fountain used?

If the principles of Feng Shui are to be applied, the ideal is to first make a general study of the house, office or place where the Indoor water fountain is to be placed. This should be done by a specialised consultant, who will determine the location of the most suitable cures according to the geographical coordinates of the space and the needs of the space.

In the case of not having this previous study or if they desire to buy the fountain is only for decorative purposes, it is well worth taking into account some observations in order to place it in the most appropriate place:

A Zen fountain should never be in a room or a kitchen.

The water in the fountain should always be in constant movement: for Feng Shui, stagnant water is synonymous with stagnant energy, and this has negative implications for prosperity and finances. From an aesthetic point of view, an indoor water fountain without water has no reason to exist, and if the water is stagnant it is not only unpleasant to look at, but also unhygienic. In addition, this can lead to stains on the structure.

The Zen fountain should be placed in such a way that the water flows in the direction of the interior of the house. To do otherwise is to send out the energy you want to enhance (prosperity, health, etc.).

Although the location of the fountain depends on many variables, in general terms it should not be located in the south of the house.

Indoor fountains should never be placed under a staircase.

Placing a fountain in front of the main entrance of the house has a very powerful aesthetic effect, as it creates a first impression of harmony and tranquillity when entering the space.

Water fountains can be enriched by adding other elements such as rocks, quartz stones, figurines, etc. However, care must be taken that they do not break the aesthetic line, making sure that they are related materials. In the case of adding a figure, such as a Buddha or a Dragon, it must be complete. The use of "Buddha heads", for example, is not recommended by Feng Shui, as it is considered to generate negative energy.

What should I consider before buying an indoor fountain?

If it is a Zen fountain with attention-grabbing elements such as lights, sounds or rotating effects, just to mention a few, it is a fountain with Yang energy.

If, on the other hand, you are looking for a relaxing effect, you should buy a Zen fountain with Yin energy. These are usually low or small in size and have plants or allusions to nature.

Although the fountain pump will generate a sound, this should not be annoying, nor should it be louder than the sound of falling water, as this would lose the effect for which it was designed.

When the water is falling it should not splash too much.

The water should fall in one direction only and should not be coloured artificially or with lights. On the contrary, it should always be crystal clear.

What are the benefits of having a decorative fountain?

If it has Yang energy, it is perfect for bringing harmony to space and for creating relaxing environments, whether in the home, office or therapeutic spaces.

If it is a Zen fountain with Ying energy, it can be very beneficial for activating energy.

A water feature placed correctly according to Feng Shui guidelines can help balance the use of the elements in the space, bringing about the correct flow of Chi energy, and this will manifest itself in an overall sense of well-being.
