A Guide To Choose The Right Water Purifier

There is a great variety of water purifiers, from the simplest to the most complex ones, either because of their different purification methods, level of purification and efficiency, installation systems, sizes, types of connections, a wide range of prices, etc.; which makes it easy to get confused.

Here is a simple guide to help you choose the best water purifier that suits your needs:

What level of purification do you want? This should not only be the first, but also the most important consideration. A system based on activated carbon, such as that offered by water purification jugs, does not offer the same level of purification as those based on reverse osmosis or ozone.

With purification jugs, you should also keep in mind to store them in the refrigerator after use and not consume water in the jug after 24 hours to avoid bacterial growth.

What volume of water do you want? If you do not want to limit the consumption of purified water, a system attached to the tap or directly to the water supply, either above or below the sink, maybe best. But you should discourage the use of water purification jugs, which have a very limited amount of liquid.

How much space do you have? Water purification jugs require space in the refrigerator, devices attached directly to the tap need a fixed space around the tap faucet, and those that go directly to the water supply require space under the sink, which can sometimes be bulky.

How much are you willing to invest? Another factor to consider is the price of water purifiers, which increases when moving from activated carbon to more complex and efficient systems such as reverse osmosis, ozone or ultraviolet.

How easy is it to install? Systems attached directly to the tap and which go on the counter or worktop are simple and easy to install, while those attached directly to the water supply and under the sink must be installed by expert personnel and will therefore require extra installation costs.

Other costs: You should also consider maintenance costs, which are basically represented in the replacement of filters. Although purifying jugs can be very economical, their filters have a limited life: they must be changed every 100 litres of water consumed, or at least every month, while, in other systems, they can last from 6 months to 2 years, depending on the filter and the model.

Additionally, there are systems that require the use of electricity, such as distillation and ultraviolet systems.

How is the water pressure in your home? Remember that reverse osmosis systems require high pressure to work properly.

Do you have very hard water and/or do you want water for general use in your home? In this case, the best options are water softeners or a reverse osmosis system, and of course a POE system.

Do you travel regularly and seasonally? Then a portable water purifier with a reverse osmosis system is the best option for you, especially if you travel to rural locations where the water source is not very safe, or you may encounter hard water.

What are water purifiers for?

Water purifiers are used to soften hard water and clean water in general, removing all micro-organisms, bacteria, chemicals and other unhealthy substances that may be in the water.

The water we drink in our homes is safe to drink, but this does not mean that it is completely free of potentially harmful substances or agents. It is precisely these substances that household or domestic water purifiers rid us of.
