How dangerous is a bed bug bite? Many people believe that bed bugs are dangerous. However, this is not entirely true. Bed bug bites can lead to skin irritation, but they cannot cause any serious problems. Even if you have very sensitive skin, there is no reason to be scared. Bed bug bites look like small reddish bumps, usually found on one’s face, shoulders, arms or neck.

The bumps are grouped together and they may resemble an allergy. In fact, many people really think this is an allergy. If you are not allergic to anything, but you have such symptoms, this means that you probably have bed bugs in your house.

Are Bed Bugs Dangerous?

The bad news is that bed bugs can reproduce very fast, and before you know it, there will be many of them. The good news is that these bugs cannot transmit any diseases. They can bite you and cause skin irritation, but that is all they can do. Now, let us see what you can do about it.

How to Identify Bed Bug Bites?

Bed bugs live in beds, carpets, closets, and old furniture. They can also hide inside the wall cracks. These places are perfect for bed bugs to hide during the day. Bed bugs reproduce fast: an adult female can produce hundreds of eggs. Although these bugs live only for a year, they will breed and it will be hard to get rid of them.

Bed bug bites are actually small reddish bumps that usually occur in a person’s neck, face or shoulders. These bites are annoying and itchy, but they are not dangerous. Bed bug rashes usually go away in a week or two, and these rashes do not requite any particular treatment.

Bed bugs cannot transmit any diseases, so there is no need to worry. Just don’t scratch your skin and wait for the rash to disappear. In the meantime, you can ask your dermatologist to give you some soothing lotion, or other herbal remedies. Most people do not need any remedies, but if you have sensitive skin, you can use some of these natural products to relieve the irritation.

If your child has been bitten, make sure he/she does not scratch the skin. The rashes will disappear, but scratching can cause scars.

If you have been bitten, you should know that this could easily happen again. That is why you should think about bed bugs prevention. You can buy some of the products made for this purpose. Read the label, follow the instructions, and always keep the product away from children and pets. The bottle must always be closed.

How to get rid of Bed bugs?

Bed bugs live in dark and quite places. Wall cracks and old furniture are perfect places for bed bugs to hide and reproduce. One adult female can produce nearly two hundred eggs in very short time. Bed bugs live only for a year, but they reproduce incredibly fast.

If you keep your old furniture in the house, perhaps you should think about storing it somewhere else – outside your home. As we said, bed bugs love old furniture.

You should also fix your walls. If you do that, you will prevent other insects from invading your home.

Buy some chemicals to get rid of bed bugs. You can find all kinds of products made for this purpose. Make sure to read the labels and see if any of these products are harmful to pets or humans. Always keep the bottle closed and store it in a dry and cool place, where your kids (or your pets) won’t be able to reach it.

Clean your house frequently! You can use a steam cleaner for your carpets and the rest of your furniture. Your closets should also be cleaned frequently. Bed bugs often hide in closets.

If you have been bitten, you can use some good home remedies for reliving the irritation. Some of these remedies include lavender oil, calamine lotion, baking soda and antibacterial soap. After a week or two, the rash will go away, but in the meantime, do not scratch the skin!
