How to Find an Exceptional Private Tutor?

Finding a private tutor adapted to your needs is no easy task... You have surely already asked yourself the question of the need (or not) to take private lessons.

It's a great first step! But now, how do you find your teacher? How can you have the knowledge of choosing the teacher that best suits your needs?

How Do You Know if You Need Private Lessons?

There are three scenarios.

The most frequent remains the difficulty encountered by some students. You can be a struggling student regardless of your level - there are struggling students in middle and high school just like there are in prep. There is no shame in that, especially if you give yourself the means to succeed but still feel limits to your progress.

Be careful though, if you are in prep, it is normal that there is a “blockage” in the grades. You have surely noticed that the class average is not the same as in the final so don't panic too fast.

So, if you work regularly and conscientiously but the grades don't follow suit, hiring a private tutor can make sense. A teacher will help you in your weak subjects, give you the methodologies and exercises necessary for your progress, and will give you back confidence in your work.

Anyway, taking private lessons is not a failure!

The second scenario, which is a little less frequent, is found among students who want to get ahead of their classmates. If you recognize yourself, you

are surely in terminal or in preparation.

Either you aim for a very selective stream from the final year and you need a concrete dossier, or you are already in a selective stream and you prepare for competitions well in advance (for example post-preparatory competitions).

If you need a solid record in all subjects and you want to go even further than the courses given by your high school, it can be interesting and beneficial to take a private teacher. Be careful, the idea is not to become dependent on your private teachers for exercises and others.

HOW TO FIND A PRIVATE TUTOR?

There are several options.

The first and most obvious is to go through your network, often friends or relatives. From experience, they are not always the most qualified people or the ablest to bring you up to speed. It's especially difficult to stay serious and focused while listening to your cousin or your aunt give you a lesson!

In short, unless you have a particularly qualified teacher in your family, we do not recommend it.

The second solution is to go through a school support organization. The problem of private tutoring organizations having a storefront, they particularly require high cost (blithely exceeding the hundreds of dollars when you add up the fact that they force you to take a certain number of hours while paying a hefty registration fee), and the fact that you are sent someone you have never met.

Finally, it can very well go or very badly (and you will not dare to say anything to your parents who have already paid 10 hours of lessons to the organization). You can of course change teachers but this requires administrative procedures and justification from the school support organization...

The third option is to choose online platforms where you can find teachers that teach their students online. For example, if you're looking for an English tutor, or any other subject, you can visit italki.com, and look out for English tutors, and choose one for them that meets your needs and requirements.

So, that's how you can easily find online tutors and learn different courses and get skills. Whether you're looking to pass your examinations or want to learn a specific language, you can easily do so using sources like the Internet.
